What is the purpose of our work life? Have you ever pause and think about this?
Maybe for you, it is fair to make money. That may be, to love to do something for you. Or maybe it is the need to prove ourselves in some way related.
There are all kinds of options and opinions that could answer the expanded this question. But whatever your opinion on this or what it means for you, I think it’s fair to say that the work has the dominant force in the lives of many people.
It seems to me that our society has the property over the way it makes the life of work and the impact of the things we value most lost in life. The justification can be things like the lack of personal freedom, family and damaged relationships, stress, health problems, broken communities, social problems, to name a few are seen.
The challenges that presents the life of the work on many levels, raises the question:
A working life has become a disease to create a sick society?
As I mentioned, we have a society in which work is the dominant force created in our lives. All other aspects of life is dancing around them. Things that are important for us to play second fiddle to work. What has made our society is a classic case of the tail wagging the dog. Surely the work should serve us, not vice versa?
All this sounds a bit dramatic? That may be. But this raises an important question:
What is the purpose of the work?
Now do not misunderstand, I’m not anti-work or business in any way or form – far from it. It could and should be an excellent tool to improve all areas of life. Perhaps it is simple, most, but here’s what I think should be the aim of the work:
• To personal freedom, the quality of life and really living life fully.
• To support and contribute constructively to the family
• Enable communities to flourish.
• To protect the health and relationships
